Belize is rich with nature and culture, one of our favorite ways to explore our own backyard is by the hand-cranked ferries. These ferries have been around for ages and are incredible to see moving along the local backwaters. One of the most popular times to take a hand-cranked ferry is when traveling down the Mopan River to explore the Xunantunich ruins for the day. The ferries are extremely impressive, not only do they carry people along the river, but you can often spot the ferry carrying cars and other heavy equipment too. Try and catch sight of these manual machines or even take a ride just to see what all the fuss is about. One of the best parts about traveling is diving right into the local customs — make this cultural ride part of your Belizean experience!
